Tri-Con 2014

I spent a bunch of this weekend at the very first Tri-Con KW, both as an attendee and as a bit of an exhibitor. People were met, fun was had, videos were shot, and parties were partied. Ideas were had too, more on that when I get things sorted out. I’ve never really done cons before, not until the last year or so, when I went to Vidcon and Fan Expo.

2014 Calendar

This week I wrote a thing. My friend Andrew at Potato Chip Math is doing a flash fiction challenge every week, and I wanted to participate because I’m desperately trying to remember what it’s like to write fiction. And yes, writing fiction and writing D&D things are different, don’t ask me why, but they feel really different. I also made my first videos of the new year, with my brand new lights that I built with the help of Ryan Consell, super genius and armorer. I’m making a lot more things this year, and I’m hoping to keep up with it and keep the quality up. I have this boundless creative energy some days, and it’s kinda wonderful. It’s a new year, and I have new things. New lights, new gaming philosophy, new ideas, new dedication, all manner of new things. I see all kinds of people starting things with that energy you get in teh first few weeks of the new year, and it’s exciting. I’m gonna try and do more, better, but I wanted to do that anyway. So instead of puttering about with resolution, which I might do somewhere else later, I want to mutter about holidays. The university where I work closes for about nine or ten days over Christmas, and the prospect of that much vacation is always inviting. I visit friends and family, make videos, sit in my pyjamas, and that takes up about four days.

At that point I begin to go mental.

Going on Tour

Only not really. Doing a lot of travelling over the holidays, visiting friends. I just got back from seeing friends in Toronto, where my magic DFTBA shirt detected more Nerdfighters! I definitely didn’t plan on the first real snowfall hitting southern Ontario and practically locking down the city, but fun and karaoke were to be had. On the train on the way back, I had a lot of time to think about travel and distance.

Body of Work

It’s been a great and thoughtful week. I love having lunch with people. I took on a new guitar student, and Woot Suit Riot is the artist in residence at next week’s Nerd Nite! You can catch Kayleigh and I playing at the Rum Runner on Tuesday at 7pm, and there’ll be some really great talks too, including one on Ada Lovelace and a set by Barry Carter, who is a hilarious comedian. You should absolutely come down and check it out.

Anyway, I’ve been thinking about how to create a body of work.
