TEDx, VEDA, and Other Acronyms

It’s been a little while since I wrote a Sunday post. I started these posts to keep myself sane in grad school, to make sure that I went out and did something interesting in my community every week rather than locking myself in my office with my thesis, but somehow lately I’ve been too busy getting out in my community to stay inside and write. There’s been work, and TEDx, and Headshots from the Heart, and lots of writing. Just not here, which is a shame. I really enjoy these lazy Sunday posts where I don’t make a case or an argument, just sort of relax in text.

How to Save Money

So it’s been a busy couple of weeks, hence no post last weekend and some sporadic posts during the week. My Engage case study is coming to a close, and I’ve been working on a lot of things. Busyness isn’t really an excuse, but it’s giving me some good perspective on the things that are actually really important to me, and one of those is these posts. Music and Values

Those have pretty much been the theme of my week. I got a new microphone on Tuesday, so I’ve been recording more music, and I’ve been writing about values on both of my blogs, as well as attending an Engage KW session on them. Values, not my blogs. It can be hard to pick out what our values are, and there’s been a lot of discussion about what a value is, and how it’s different from a belief or a personality trait. I’ve been mulling this over, and I think I’ve got a tentative answer. Also, new music below.  (more…)

Windows XP Ninja Turtles

It’s been getting pretty heavy here lately. November’s like that. I have one story left, but I want to lighten the mood a bit. Before I got my job doing communications for the Faculty Association, I did a lot of babysitting,. I got to look after some really great kids, learned a lot, and had a good time doing it. We watched movies, went to the park, and we started a band. This is the saga of the Windows XP Ninja Turtles.  (more…)
