The Hunt is On

I’ve spent most of the week in an internet wasteland, which unsurprisingly drives me utterly mad. Things start to fall behind, and there’s only so long I can work from my phone. Writing blog posts and hunting for jobs become very difficult without a connection. I spent many a night hunting for coffee shops and restaurants that didn’t mind me sitting there for six to seven ours working, as well as interviewing for jobs and babysitting a wonderful pair of kids. I want to start writing about my job hunt soon, because I’m learning a lot of helpful things. It’s been a busy week, but here’s what I’ve done in brief, and the things I’ve learned from my experiences.  (more…)

Hope Springs Eternal

I did a lot of things this week. I applied for jobs, played D&D, gave a guitar lesson, and went to my first open night at Kwartzlab. I went to the symphony, learned some great new songs at band practice, helped a friend move a cabinet, and learned how to win with Eldar. Earlier today, I was going to write about all of that. Well, some of that. But I thought I’d wait until after I got back from Hopespring Cancer Support Centre’s grand opening to write this, just in case. I was right to do it. The people I met there and the stories they shared with me really hit home and reminded my why I love doing work with them.  (more…)

Grad Level Gratitude

When I think about finishing, my first thought is always “I didn’t do it by myself.” Oh, I did all the writing and reading, but there’s more to it than that. More than once I was burnt out, and thought about just quitting rather than writing another page. I’d come too far to walk away, but the thought was pretty tempting. I looked to other people for support, and got it in spades. I don’t know if I could have done it without them, and I want to throw out some thanks.  (more…)

Finished!

This past Wednesday I turned in my final paperwork. I now have a Master’s degree in philosophy. It’s been a long year, and I’ve learned a lot about philosophy, academia, and myself. I’m going to talk about it for a few weeks, because it’s literally the biggest thing that I’ve ever done. What’s crazy to me is that in the past year, it isn’t the only thing I’ve done. I thought my MA would be all-consuming, but most of the time when I was working, except for the last three months, I was working on other projects.  (more…)
